The classic volcano boat
Large traditional wooden boats leave Fira’s Old Port several times a day in season. You get a guided crater walk, the hot springs swim and plenty of time — at the lowest price. The downside is crowds on busy days.
Catamaran cruises
Catamarans sail around the caldera with swim stops at the hot springs and beaches on the south coast, plus a meal and drinks. Most don’t land on Nea Kameni, so if the crater hike matters to you, check the itinerary. Sunset departures are the most popular tour on Santorini.
Private boats
A private skipper lets you choose the timing, skip the hike or stay longer at quiet coves. It is the most expensive option per boat, but can work out reasonable for a group of six or more.
Before you book, check
- Does the tour land on Nea Kameni or only sail past it?
- Is the volcano entrance fee included?
- Where is the departure port, and is hotel transfer included?
- What is the cancellation policy if the wind picks up?
