Thirassia island

Santorini's quiet sister island on the western rim of the caldera — tavernas by the water and a cliff-top village.

Updated 1 min read

Thirassia is a piece of the original volcano that stayed above water after the great Bronze Age eruption. It forms the western edge of the caldera, facing Oia, and feels like Santorini decades ago.

Full-day volcano tours often stop at Korfos, a small harbour lined with fish tavernas, for lunch. Energetic visitors can climb the steps to the village of Manolas on the cliff top for views back across the caldera.
